How do you Mojito?

I hope you had a wonderful July 4th holiday! The weekend started out a bit rainy and there were rumors of a big blustery hurricane making its way up the coast- but Saturday and Sunday were warm, sunny, and a whole lot of fun.

Summer holidays mean cookouts and grillin'. Personally, I don't think any holiday is complete without a signature cocktail. I was obsessing over flipping through Pinterest when I found this fun and festive Mojito:
Yes those are edible star floaters. Yes I need them in my life.
You can find the recipe here. But it got me thinking about all the different twists on the classic mojito (and all the crazies on our team).

How do you Mojito?
The classic Mojito is simple, refreshing, and refined.
Well, refined enough for pirates and rum runners.
Personally, I like my mojito a little less sweet, a little more mint. I also like to garnish with a real stalk of sugar cane but that's just me being all fancy. Here's my recipe:

_______________________________
8 fresh mint leaves
Half of a lime, cut into 4 wedges
2 teaspoons white sugar, or to taste
1 cup ice cubes
1.5 fl ounces white rum
1/2 cub club soda
_______________________________

Directions:

Place mint leaves and 1 lime wedge into a sturdy glass. Use a muddler to crush the mint and lime to release
the mint oils and lime juice. Add 2 more lime wedges and the sugar, and muddle again to release the lime
juice. Do not strain the mixture. Fill the glass almost to the top with ice. Pour the rum over the ice, and fill
the glass with carbonated water. Stir, taste, and add more sugar if desired. Garnish with the remaining lime
wedge.

Simple and delicious.

But my real favorite, when we get down to the real story, will always be the watermelon mojito.
You can find the recipe, and other fun summer drinks here.

I love anything watermelon. I think because its sweet and cool, and hey, I try to be sweet and cool as well! Watermelon also happens to be my favorite color so its a perfect match. Combine watermelon with fresh mint and some good rum and my goodness! The repressed southern belle deep in my soul is happily sitting on a front porch swing somewhere in my mind.

But that's me. My brother, being a manly man, insists on drinking only manly man drinks. Like strawberry mojitos. Sooooooooo much manlier.
Recipe, presumably for manly men only, here

But I get it. In his mind, its not really strawberry, its RAWberry! Slightly tart and made with darker rum. because he can handle it.

His lady friend prefers pineapple. And not just pineapple mojitos, but any pineapple cocktail. Or just pineapple anything: grilled, on a burger, upside down on a cake, you get the picture. I think she likes them because the yellow pineapple color reminds everyone of her gorgeous long golden hair. Not that I'm jealous or anything.
For gorgeous sun kissed locks, see your stylist. For the recipe, see here.

My Mom prefers mango. Mango Mama. But it makes sense (actually it doesn't). Mangoes are bright, and sweet, and radiant just like my Mom. (Actually, I read the wikipedia article on mangoes and their skin can be anything from sickly green to orange red. The fruit, though sweet and tasty, protects a flat, hairy pit. Nothing like Mango Mama.)
Recipe, sans hairy pits, here.
I also found a few more adventurous recipes. I've never tried either of these but maybe we'll have cause to make a batch in the near future! They do look interesting:

Mandarin or tangerine: recipe here.

Oh? What's Dad's favorite Mojito?
The Classic.
Of course!

(But that's actually a bold faced lie. Dad does not drink Mojitos. He drinks Scotch.)
And Coffee. Cafecito to be exact.
But he gets to do what he wants because hes the Dad.
So whats your favorite? Do you like the clean classic taste of a proper Mojito? Or do you like to mix it up? Let us know and you may find your favorite on our menu!

Have a wonderful week! And stay cool out there!
